Virginia Tech's Darren Evans declares, Ryan Williams still unsure
Virginia Tech running backs Darren Evans and Ryan Williams both had planned to announce their 2011 NFL Draft decisions on Thursday. Evans declared for the draft after rushing for 854 yards and 11 touchdowns as part of a three-back rotation. Williams on the other hand remains undecided. Evans was told by the NFC Draft Advisory Board that he would be selected from rounds 4 to 7. Evans rebounded well after missing the entire 2009 season with a torn ACL. As for Williams, he overcame a hamstring injury this season but only managed 447 rushing yards on the year. But, Williams heard 1st or 2nd round from the Advisory Board.
Fantasy Analysis:
Evans and Williams helped lead the Virginia Tech Hokies to a 11-3 overall record. It was a tough start and end to their season. Tech had two opening losses to Boise State and JMU then lost in the Orange Bowl to Stanford. In between that, the Hokies rolled off 11 straight wins, including a 9-0 record against the ACC. For Evans, he has a child and a family to take care off. This likely helped push his decision toward the NFL. With Williams, he appears to be skeptical that he can still be drafted in the first or second-round considering his injury and poor production on the season. In my 2011 NFL Mock Draft, Williams is selected at No. 16 in the first round to the Miami Dolphins. I do not have Evans selected, since the Mock is only the first two rounds, while I project Evans closer to late round five.
