Seahawks are preparing to use Whitehurst

Seattle Seahawks quarterback Matt Hasselbeck @Hasselbeck was removed from last week's game in the first quarterback due to a lower back strain injury. Backup quarterback Charlie Whitehurst came in play for Hasselbeck but was not asked to make many big throws. Whitehurst finished the game 11 for 18 with 66 yards, no TDs or INTs. There were rumors during the preseason that Whitehurst would be groomed into the starting quarterback of the future for Seattle, thus far, he's looking more like a career backup. "I want to make sure as we proceed through the week and know what we're doing," Carroll said. "If Matt can play a factor in that, we'll figure it out when the time comes."

Fantasy Analysis:

Seattle needs to give Whitehurst one last shot here at the end of the season to see what he can do. Considering that they would rather just have Hasselbeck plays, that tells me they may have already come to the decision that Whitehurst isn't the guy for the future. If Seattle is looking for a quarterback in the draft next year, there are going to be a ton of QBs drafted next year with all the coaching vacancies. Hasselbeck seems like he's been playing on fumes the last couple seasons so it's a possibility he's done after this season.
