Chargers' Tolbert sprains neck and shoulder
In Sunday's game against the Cincinnati Bengals, San Diego Chargers running back Mike Tolbert
sprained his neck and shoulder on a big hit. NFL Network insider Jason La Canfora reported that Tolbert has already passed and cleared all medical tests after the game and is travelling with the team back to San Diego. During the first quarter, Tolbert put his head down and ran right into the chest of Bengals safety Reggie Nelson. Tolbert ultimately fumbled the ball and laid motionless face-down after the hit. The early reports say that Tolbert may sit next week as a precaution. "He's doing fine," coach Norv Turner said. "He has a sprained shoulder and neck. He's got all the feeling back in his hands. He'll be all right."
Fantasy Analysis:
Tolbert took a big hit here and was unlucky. Sometimes your head is just set and hit at the wrong angle. In any case, Tolbert's fantasy season is over regardless if he plays. Entering Week 17, there's no good reason to use him in fantasy lineup. Considering the injury and the reemergence of running back Ryan Mathews
, there isn't enough positive information to merit using him, assuming he plays. San Diego effectively knocked themselves out of contention as well. With the Kansas City Chiefs winning and the Chargers loss, San Diego has nothing left to play for except pride and a spot in the NFL Draft.
