Patriots' Aaron Hernandez will not play in week 16
Aaron Hernandez
and Rob Gronkowski
have traded the title of Patriots tight end du jour for most of the season. This Sunday, there will be no guessing game. Hernandez has been ruled out because of a hip injury so Gronkowski will get the start. Hernandez was listed as questionable when New England released its injury report Friday. But the team decided to play it safe and downgraded Hernandez on Saturday. He has 563 yards and six touchdowns this year. Gronkowski has 390 yards and seven touchdowns.
Fantasy Analysis:
Alge Crumpler will be the Pats' second tight end, but he's almost purely a blocker. Gronkowski should get a nice number of looks with Hernandez out and becomes a bottom-end TE1 in 12-team leagues. The Bills look like a good matchup at first glance as they have allowed the fourth-most fantasy points to tight ends. But they haven't allowed more than five fantasy points to such a player since week 10. Gronkowski has tallied three or fewer fantasy points in three of his past five games, but he's one of Tom Brady's favorite options when the offense nears the goal line. Hernandez's hip isn't expected to be a long-term problem, so you should expect to have him back if your league is active in week 17.
