Chargers' Antonio Gates likely out for rest of regular season

What Antonio Gates @AntonioGates85' feet need most is rest. That's the only way he's going to feel better. The good news is rest is probably on the way. The bad news, especially for his fantasy owners, is that rest will come over the final two weeks of the regular season. Gates has missed four of the Chargers' past six games due to multiple foot injuries with a torn right plantar fascia being the most notable. When asked by the San Diego Union-Tribune's Kevin Acee on Thursday if he was shooting for a playoff return, Gates said "I think that's kind of the goal." Specialists have examined Gates and told him he's not making the injuries any worse by playing.

Fantasy Analysis:

You can go ahead and drop Gates in all non-keeper leagues. He's another casualty at the tight end position in what has been a ridiculous year for those players. Randy McMichael @randymac81 is his backup, but he's done close to nothing since scoring two touchdowns in week nine. There should be options available in your league (Kevin Boss? Ben Watson? Bo Scaife?) but none of them possess the upside that even a hobbled Gates had. Play the matchups and pray for the best. With so many injuries this season, it seems like the tight end has become as predictable as the kicker.
