Giants' Steve Smith done; Mario Manningham believes he will play Sunday

A hamstring wasn't the problem after all for Giants wide receiver Steve Smith @SteveSmithWR. He suffered a knee injury Monday night and prognosis isn't promising. Smith requires season-ending surgery to repair damage to the articular cartilage in his left knee. Smith missed the previous four games with a pectoral muscle tear before returning for the Vikings game. He caught one pass and was injured on that play. "I feel bad for Steve," head coach Tom Coughlin said. "He fights his way back, he gets back on the field, he gets a little acclimated to game conditions again and then his injury. Our thoughts, the entire thoughts of our team are with Steve at this time." Mario Manningham @ManninghamNYG will get the start Sunday against the Eagles. That is, if he can play. If you ask Manningham, he'll say there's no doubt. "I'm playing," Manningham told the Wall Street Journal on Wednesday. "Even if Steve was playing, I'd be playing." Manningham missed the entire second half of Monday's game because of a hip flexor injury.

Fantasy Analysis:

Eli Manning owners would certainly like to see Manningham active this week. Eagles cornerback Asante Samuel practiced Wednesday and is expected to play right now. Having Manningham and Hakeem Nicks available would give Eli enough weapons to be successful. Consider him a borderline top-10 QB for week 15 with the opportunity to climb higher if Samuel suffers another setback with his knee injury, as he did last Friday.
