Lions' Stafford remains doubtful, Stanton to start
Detroit Lions quarterback Matthew Stafford
tried to test his arm out by throwing roughly a dozen short passes at practice on Wednesday, but still is not ready. Third-string quarterback Drew Stanton
, who nearly led the Lions to a tough win over divisional rival Chicago Bears, has been taking the team's No. 1 practice reps and will start this weekend at home against the Green Bay Packers. Stafford separated his right throwing shoulder during the Lions' loss to the New York Jets on Nov. 7. He tested his arm as part of the team's rehabilitation program. Backup quarterback Shaun Hill is still out with a broken right index finger. Running back Jahvid Best (toe), defensive end Kyle Vanden Bosch (neck) and linebacker Isaiah Ekejiuba (knee) missed practice on Wednesday as well.
Fantasy Analysis:
The Lions season may be over in terms of getting into the playoffs, but they can still play the spoiler with upcoming games against Green Bay, Tampa Bay, Miami and Minnesota. With the Carolina Panthers sitting at 1-11 in the W-L column, the Lions are tied at 2-10 with the Buffalo Bills and Cincinnati Bengals. Stafford is still at least one week away from returning to action. He has only played in three games this season. Stanton played a solid game against Chicago last week, going 16 for 24 with 178 yards, one touchdown and no picks. But he's far from a fantasy option against a tough Green Bay defense this week.
