Panthers' Mike Goodson has sprained AC joint
There's no doubt Carolina Panthers running back Mike Goodson
has played surprisingly, shockingly well through the past four weeks. But Jonathan Stewart
's return has represented a bit of a re-changing of the guard. Throw in a shoulder injury and Goodson's value may be plummeting by the day. Goodson sprained an AC joint in his shoulder during Sunday's loss to Seattle. He left the game in the second half and didn't return, but said he thinks he'll be able to play against the Atlanta Falcons this week.
"It's sore right now, but it should be all right, though," Goodson told the Gaston Gazette. "I hurt it a couple of weeks ago on a kick return the same way. Today, he put his helmet right on it."
Goodson, who accumulated at least 113 yards from scrimmage in each game during weeks 10-12, carried the ball three times against the Seahawks. He gained 19 yards and a score.
Fantasy Analysis:
So Goodson wasn't a total bust in week 13, but the story is that Stewart got 22 touches. He turned those into 99 yards and a score. Certainly helped out by Goodson's injury, it's still clear the Panthers want Stewart to carry the ball more now that he's healthy. This backfield has some tough matchups ahead as the Panthers have to face Atlanta twice and Pittsburgh sandwiched around a cake meeting versus Arizona. But even in decent matchups, Goodson is a weak flex play as his workload has fallen into the minority. Stewart is much stronger flex option, but I can't put him above that because of the upcoming opponents.
