Redskins' Clinton Portis will play Sunday; Ryan Torain will not
Washington Redskins running back Ryan Torain
won't be able to play Sunday, just in time for Clinton Portis
' return to the lineup. Portis, who has been out since week four because of a groin injury, has been deemed by head coach Mike Shanahan as healthy enough to play this weekend's game at Tennessee.
"If we didn't feel good about [Portis], we wouldn't play him," Shanahan after Friday's practice. "He looked like he'd be good to go. ... I'm not going to go into detail about workload we'll give him, but he's going to play in the game."
Torain has been hampered by a bad hamstring for a couple of weeks. Despite being active and expected to start Monday night versus Philadelphia, he didn't play after aggravating his injury during pregame warmups. Torain didn't practice at all this week and is no guarantee to play in week 12.
Keiland Williams
, who did start against the Eagles, is expected to back up Portis.
Fantasy Analysis:
The Titans have given up 233 rushing yards and three touchdowns to running backs in their past two games, but they are still a pretty good run defense. That's especially true at home, where they have yet to allow any RB rack up 100 yards or score a TD on the ground. In this critical fantasy week, I'd be wary of plugging Portis back into my lineup. Don't forget that Williams scored three touchdowns last week, albeit in garbage time. Plus, Shanahan will always keep his hand close to the vest when it comes to running backs. I'm not high on either guy, but I actually like Williams a little more this week. I'd give Portis a game to prove that he's really back after tearing his groin.
