Bills' C.J. Spiller out indefinitely with hamstring injury
Buffalo Bills rookie running back C.J. Spiller
is out indefinitely after a hamstring injury today in the Bills 14-12 win against the Detroit Lions. "I can't imagine him playing this week," Bills coach Chan Gailey said. "We'll have to see how long it lasts." Spiller exited in the second quarter after returning a punt. Due to the injury to wide receiver Roscoe Parrish, Spiller had taken over as Buffalo's punt returner. Spiller had a reduced role at running back, allowing starting back Fred Jackson to have 25 rushes for 133 yards and a score, including 6 receptions for 37 yards and a score. Those are the only score Buffalo needed en route to their first victory of the season.
Fantasy Analysis:
I guess this more or less ends Spiller's season. It's tough for a guy who relies on his speed to get much done after recovering from a hamstring injury, which can really linger on if rushed back. Spiller hasn't had a very great season, but very few players on the Bills have, with the exception of wide receiver Steve Johnson. I wrote an article about seven months ago saying not to expect a whole lot from Spiller. He's a straight-line speed runner, not a true running back and would be best used in complimentary role and return man. In any case, he has had a limited role lately and this probably simplifies things quite a bit for Buffalo. Jackson was finally able to get a rhythm going this week and backup Quinton Ganther will likely see a slight boost in production when Jackson needs a breather.
