Reports: Matthew Stafford has Grade 3 shoulder separation, season over
Detroit Lions quarterback Matthew Stafford
said Monday he didn't think he would play in week 10. A couple of reports Tuesday state that Stafford won't play this week and for the rest of the season.
According to a source close to Stafford's situation, the Lions think the QB's newest injury is a Grade 3 separation of his right shoulder, which would effectively end his 2010. Stafford missed five games earlier this season with a Grade 2 separation of the same shoulder.
Stafford underwent an MRI on Monday, the results of which are not known. Stafford is expected to seek a second option from Dr. James Andrews, the surgeon who consulted with Stafford after his first shoulder injury.
Stafford sustained the injury during the fourth quarter of Sunday's loss to the Jets.
Fantasy Analysis:
An article from MLive.com that is linked below; there is also a report from FoxSportsDetroit.com that basically states the same thing -- this injury is worse than Stafford's shoulder separation from week one, he is unlikely to play again this year. Remember that nothing is official and we'll post an update when the Lions do have something to say.
The Lions are hoping that Shaun Hill can return from his fractured left forearm in time to face this Bills this Sunday. Drew Stanton
would get the start if he isn't healed yet. However, Hill is a smart pickup right now. He put up some solid fantasy games while filling in for Stafford in weeks 2-6 and the Lions have a friendly second-half schedule for quarterbacks.
