Panthers' DeAngelo Williams officially doubtful for week 9

On Thursday, various publications covering the Carolina Panthers stated that running back DeAngelo Williams @DeAngeloRB isn't expected to play Sunday versus New Orleans. The team pretty much confirmed that notion Friday when it released its official injury report. Williams is listed as doubtful to play. He has missed every Panthers practice in the past two weeks as he continues to deal with a sprained left foot, which he suffered in week seven. Jonathan Stewart @Jonathanstewar1 will get another start in his place. Williams, a top-10 fantasy back in a majority of leagues at the start of the season, has really struggled this year. He hasn't logged a 100-yard rushing effort and has just one touchdown. Williams ran for more than 2,600 combined yards and 25 TDs in the past two years.

Fantasy Analysis:

It's hard to realize that the Panthers, with Williams and Jonathan Stewart, have the fourth-fewest rushing yards in the league. Of course, it's not all Williams fault; Stewart is averaging just 2.8 yards per carry and the offensive line is a shell of its former self. The Saints have been better against the run in the past month, allowing an average of 60 rushing yards over their past four games. So the matchup isn't great, but this group hasn't been getting it done against any defense. Stewart is a very low RB2 this week.
