UPDATE: Source: Saints' Drew Brees has fracture, torn meniscus in left knee

WIST-AM is reporting some alarming news about New Orleans Saints quarterback Drew Brees @drewbrees. Kenny Wilkerson, a show host for the station based out of Metairie, La., said during his Monday broadcast that Brees has a fracture in his left knee along with a torn meniscus. Wilkerson said his source for this information is "100 thousand-trillion-million percent" accurate. "When I tell you this comes from an impeccable source, OK, that's where it comes from," Wilkerson said. "... Certain people, when I get information from them, I take it to the bank that it is 1,000 percent true." The Saints have been very quiet about Brees' knee, which he injured during a Sept. 26 game versus Atlanta. At that time, they called it a sprain and Brees has shown up to practices sporting a brace on the knee.

UPDATE: Brees, head coach Sean Payton and some other local reporters have all insinuated that the information given out by Wilkerson is egregiously false.

Fantasy Analysis:

Wilkerson also said Brees would probably need micro fracture surgery after the season to repair the crack in his knee; I doubt that, unless the injury is extremely severe. Brees has been picked off nine times since the Falcons game, but his yardage and touchdown totals have stayed at high levels. I'm sure this would bother Brees more if he was a Michael Vick-type QB, but he doesn't need to run around and create plays for himself. Considering Brees has played fairly well with this injury over the past five weeks, I wouldn't be too concerned about his status for the rest of the season. He'll need some sort of operation when all is said and done, but he should be a fine every-week start for the rest of this year.
