Cowboys' Tony Romo has broken collarbone
The Dallas Cowboys hit the losing jackpot Monday night. They lost the game, their quarterback and, effectively, their season. Tony Romo will be out of action for the majority of the remaining season due to a broken collarbone. Nothing has been confirmed, but Romo could be out as little as six weeks or as long as the rest of the year. The injury occurred during the second quarter when Giants linebacker Michael Boley came in unblocked and drove Romo's left side into ground. He stayed still on the turf for a minute and then walked off. He nearly forced himself back into the game two plays later, but trainers held him back by his jersey. He walked to the back and underwent X-rays where the grim reality for 'Boys fans was discovered. Jon Kitna replaced Romo and moved the team 32 total yards in his first seven drives.
Fantasy Analysis:
Kitna got better, mostly thanks to some garbage-time points as the Giants' defense was relaxing. But he and the entire offense were putrid for the third quarter.
I personally think Romo is done for the year. We'll know for sure in the next day or two, but the track record of recovery time for broken collarbones shows that Romo is going to be out for quite a while. Matt Leinart, when he was still the starting quarterback for the Cardinals, broke his collarbone in October 2007. He missed the rest of the season. Adrian Peterson broke his collarbone in October 2006 while still at Oklahoma. He was out until the team's January bowl game.
Obviously, this is horrible news for fantasy owners of most other Cowboys. Miles Austin
, Roy Williams, Felix Jones, Marion Barber, all of them are negatively affected by this injury. I have Austin on my team and I am trying to deal him while his value is high, because I think Kitna is going to drag him down. Way down.
There is some good news on the fantasy front. Kitna didn't have much time to throw on some plays, but he went to Dez Bryant
and Jason Witten when he did. I think those are two players whom it's safe to upgrade. But be slight with it. Before tonight, Kitna hadn't played in a meaningful game since the 2008 season. Now he'll be a regular in Dallas' starting lineup.
How 'bout dem Cowboys?!
