Chargers' Antonio Gates looks to be a game-time decision
A handful of NFL teams are trying to piece together their offense heading into week seven. The San Diego Chargers are certainly a part of that crowd. Wide receiver Malcom Floyd is already out due to a hamstring ailment and tight end Antonio Gates
has missed the first two days of practice this week. He has all the makings of a game-time decision, according to The San Diego Union-Tribune. Gates, who is being held back because of a toe injury, may practice Friday, but he said it's not a must. His connection with Philip Rivers is good enough for him to roll onto the field without practice and play well. He's just waiting to see if he actually can play well.
"Part of me is waiting to see," Gates said Thursday. "I've been in a situation where (early in the week) I didn't think I'd play and then I played."
Elsewhere in the Chargers' passing game, Legedu Naanee
hasn't practiced all week and is expected to miss another game because of the hamstring he injured Oct. 10 at Oakland. Buster Davis was absent from Thursday's practice due to bruised ribs sustained in the same game.
Fantasy Analysis:
For the Chargers, the pickings are getting slim. I think Davis will play, but it's starting to look like Patrick Crayton
will be the team's No. 1 wide receiver against the Patriots. Given the matchup, the opportunity and his big game last week -- six catches, 117 yards against the Rams -- Crayton should be worth a pickup if you are in a pinch this week without the likes of Floyd, Calvin or Andre Johnson, Braylon Edwards, Reggie Wayne or Austin Collie.
Gates may tough it out, but if you don't want to risk it, it's a good thing for you that tight end is extraordinarily deep this season. Decent fill-ins this week such as Tony Moeaki, Benjamin Watson and Todd Heap should be available in your league.
