2012 NFL Draft Prospect Scouting Report:
Leonard Johnson, CB, Iowa State
Johnson can play press and uses his hands well to re-route receivers. He possesses adequate speed and will need to rely heavily on technique to not get beat by quicker opponents. He does well to anticipate certain routes as long as he maintains the right leverage. He has a tendency to lean on the inside and short route, which can get him in trouble on occasion.
When in off coverage, he can get trigger happy while waiting to jump the route. He'll be fine in his drop, but definitely can get happy feet when dealing with short throws. Johnson's closing speed is average and he isn't anything special when defending the ball. Teams will want to see how well he can attack out of his drop and see what his burst is like when coming after the ball-carrier.
Johnson is a solid prospect with no big holes in his game, but there's very little to get excited about. He will need time to be groomed, but could develop into a long-term pro if he finds a team that doesn't need him on the field immediately and gives him time to blossom.
