2012 NFL Draft Prospect Scouting Report:
person
Evan Rodriguez, FB, Temple
Evan Rodriguez projects as an H-back at the next level. With tremendous size and strength, he should garner some attention in the later rounds as a versatile player who can contribute on special teams right away. He's smooth for a guy with his frame and he can do it all. Seal and block the edge, line up out wide or put him in motion. He explodes out of his three point stance very nicely and he looks like a natural fit as a team's No. 2 TE.
Rodriguez has a great nasty streak on film. He isn't a traditional full back though. He is best in-line, taking on defenders, laying down double teams, slipping outside to make the catch. He looks to have a great football IQ. Once he gets the ball in his hands, he's looking to rumble. He doesn't have great speed, but he's a long and muscular guy who presents a huge target. Working the seam shouldn't be a problem.
He has good hands and catches the ball routinely away from his body. He puts a nice corner on his routes, although he's an upright runner who needs to learn to play with a better bend.
