2011 NFL Draft Prospect Scouting Report:
Corey Liuget, DT, Illinois
This versatile prospect does his best work getting into the opponents' backfield and causing havoc. He's athletic, strong and quick with his feet. He uses his hands extremely well to disengage blockers and either bull rush them or use his quickness to get around them. In college, he was double-teamed frequently and in the NFL, he will develop into the same kind of player.
In order to take his game to the next level, he needs to learn how to play his game within a defensive scheme. He sometimes goes his own way and leaves holes in the defense. He sometimes uses the same pass-rush technique over and over again, leaving him predictable and ineffective.
He can play either tackle position in a 4-3 defense or possibly a DE in a 3-4. Although he does not have great straight line speed, he plays with such tremendous energy and tenacity. He explodes off the line and often gets the upper-hand simply from hitting his opponent first.
After a great performance at the 2011 NFL Combine, Liuget has moved into a serious first round pick. Scouts love his suddenness and size in a draft full of much slower and bulkier defensive tackles. He currently projects as an mid-first round selection in the 2011 NFL Draft.
