2011 NFL Draft Prospect Scouting Report:
person
Marcell Dareus, DT, Alabama
Dareus' combination of size, speed, and power make him an intriguing prospect. He has the versatility to play either inside in a 4-3 defense or on the outside of the line in a 3-4 scheme. His only real drawback is that he does not have a ton of experience, as he started just four games prior to his junior season and four more in 2010. Still, Dareus was always thought to be a lock to leave Alabama early and enter the NFL Draft, and he did just that.
To say he has the most of his time with the Crimson Tide would be an understatement. He earned defensive MVP honors in last season's BCS Nation Championship victory over Texas. This season Dareus recorded nine tackles for loss and led the team with 6.5 sacks (despite being suspended for two games due to receiving improper benefits from agents). That should not harm his draft status at all; and it is a draft status that is sky-high right now. Dareus has always been a great run defender and his pass-rushing skills have improved. Dareus could be a Top 5 overall selection and anything less than a Top 10 pick would be a considerable surprise.
