2011 NFL Draft Prospect Scouting Report:
person
Sione Fua, DT, Stanford
After seeing limited action in 2006 and going on a church mission in 2007, defensive tackle Sione Fua started living up to his potential during his sophomore season. Despite being a little rusty after sitting out a year, Fua saw action in all 12 games and by the end of the year he was starting. Fua ended up starting four times at defensive tackle and three times at nose guard and tallied 6.0 tackles-for-loss and 3.0 sacks. By his junior campaign Fua was a steady force in the starting lineup after an injury sidelined the usual starting defensive tackle. Fua performed very well and earned honorable mention All-Pac-10 accolades.
Stanford's defense does not get as much credit as they deserve this season -- as is often the case with Pac-10 teams -- but Fua's presence on the interior line has helped the Cardinals reach a BCS bowl. Once again Fua has not put up eye popping numbers, but totaling 22 tackles, 6.0 tackles-for-loss and 4.5 sacks is not bad at all for a nose guard.
Fua is a superb run stuffer and that will be his specialty at the next level. Game after game Fua has been asked to force many of the dynamic running backs in the conference to bounce outside. For the most part, Fua has done a very good job and he has one more big game left to try and boost his stock a little higher than the mid-rounds.
