2010 NFL Draft Prospect Scouting Report:
person
Amari Spievey, CB, Iowa
Amari Spievey isn't well known, but he's one of the better cornerbacks available in the 2010 NFL Draft. Spievey started his career in Junior College, where he played one season. During his season in JC, he intercepted 7 passes, returning two of them for touchdowns and returned two kicks for touchdowns as well. He transferred to Iowa for his sophomore and junior seasons where he started all 26 games he played in for the Hawkeyes. As a sophomore, Spievey tallied 68 tackles, 1 tackle for loss, 4 interceptions, 10 passes broken up in coverage, and a forced fumble. He also returned one of his interceptions for a touchdown. He was solid again in 2009 as a junior when he posted 56 tackles, 1 tackle for loss, 2 interceptions, and 10 passes broken up in coverage. Spievey has a great combination of size and speed, and is starting to get the attention of NFL GMs now that he has declared for the draft. Because he's not a big name prospect, and he wasn't expected to declare, it may take a while for his draft stock to rise to an appropriate level (because many front offices have yet to start scouting him). Spievey was outstanding at the NFL Combine in February. He looked good in position drills, and ran a very good 4.47 second 40 yard dash. This performance should move him into the middle of the second round in April.
