2010 NFL Draft Prospect Scouting Report:
person
Joe Webb, QB, UAB
Joe Webb spent most of his redshirt freshman campaign sitting on the bench, but he was called into action during the last two games and performed amazingly well for a freshman. In those two games he completed 33 of 51 passes for 426 yards and one touchdown. Webb was still second on the depth chart during his sophomore campaign, but he completed 55.6 percent of his attempts and threw five touchdowns and just one interception. Webb was also utilized as a receiver as a sophomore and was second on the team with 30 receptions for 459 yards. He also added three trips to the end zone as a receiver and one as a rusher. It was in 2008 when Webb finally became the Blazers' full-time starting quarterback. While his completion percentage remained a positive, Webb threw 16 interceptions and just ten touchdowns. He was also the team's leading rusher in 2008 with 1,021 rushing yards and 11 rushing touchdowns. The story was the same for UAB in 2009. Without a consistent rusher on the team, Webb had to be the team's quarterback and running back. However, Webb put up much better numbers during his senior campaign and passed for 21 touchdowns and threw just eight interceptions. Webb's ability to run, pass and catch the ball is enticing, but where he exactly fits into the NFL is an issue. He does have the size to play quarterback, but he could also play some wide receiver and carry the ball in 'wildcat' formations. Unless a team has a plan for him, Webb might have to wait a while before he hears his name being called on draft day.
