2010 NFL Draft Prospect Scouting Report:
person
Brent Bowden, P, Virginia Tech
For three seasons Brent Bowden has been one of the best punters in the Atlantic Coast Conference, if not the nation. That may not make his draft prospects too great as far as overall draft position, but Bowden certainly has a future in the NFL. After spending his redshirt freshman and freshman campaigns on the bench, Bowden was thrown into the fire as a sophomore. During that season he tied a school record with 88 punts and set Virginia Tech's single season punt yard record at 3,742. His junior campaign was not quite as productive when he averaged 40.4 yards per punt and downed 24 kicks inside the 20-yard line. Both of those numbers were down from the previous season and Bowden needed to prove that he could be a more consistent player as a senior; he did so by averaging 43.8 yards per punt and placing 20 of his 57 attempts inside the 20 yard line. Like all punters, Bowden will have to wait a while to hear his name called on draft day, but he is a big guy at 6-3 and 206 pounds and can develop into even a stronger punter with time. If Bowden is not the first punter off the board, he will likely be in the top five.
