2010 NFL Draft Prospect Scouting Report:
person
Torrell Troup, DT, UCF
Torrell Troup is not a high profile defensive tackle, but there is not much separating him from some of the defensive linemen coming in from more prominent football programs. As a true freshman Troup made three starts and started to show his potential. By his sophomore season Troup was a steady force in the middle of UCF's line. He started 11 games and consistently disrupted both the passing and rushing games of the Knights' opposition. By the time he was an upperclassman, Troup was garnering some national attention. He was voted onto the All-Conference USA Second-Team and tallied 12.5 tackles-for-loss. Troup's senior campaign has not been as productive, finishing the season with 2.0 sacks and 5.0 tackles-for-loss. However, those numbers are a little deceiving. UCF had two great ends who consistently got into the backfield and that allowed Troup (who tallied 32 tackles) to worry more about stuffing the run. Troup has decent size, but he will need to add some weight to be a productive defensive tackle in the NFL. He is strong and pretty good at the point of attack, but there are plenty of other defensive tackles who are expected to test better than Troup. It will take a great Senior Week for Troup to get his name out there enough to be a second or third round selection. 2/21 Update: And Troup did have a great outing at the East-West Shrine Game and his stock has gone through the roof. His success in the early workouts has earned him a much deserved invite to the NFL Combine and he will battle it out with some great defensive tackles. If he can compete with the likes of Dan Williams and Jared Odrick, Troup will easily be gone by the end of the second or third round.
