Jamar Chaney, ILB, Mississippi State
Chaney is one of the most experienced players in college football. He played in all 11 of Mississippi State's games during his freshman season of 2005 and started three. The linebacker then started 11 of 12 games as a sophomore and 12 of 13 games as a junior before breaking his leg on opening day of his senior campaign. Chaney applied for a medical redshirt and got it, thus he returned for one final season in 2009. He made the most of it, leading the Bulldogs with 90 tackles (4.5 for loss) while also notching two sacks, two interceptions, and two fumble recoveries. Chaney earned invites to both the Senior Bowl and the East-West Shrine Game. A versatile linebacker who can play inside and outside, Chaney has good size at 6'1' and 240 pounds. He has been clocked as fast as 4.52 in the 40-yard dash, although he generally runs a 4.60. Chaney is quick, agile, and after starting his collegiate career on the outside, he moved to middle linebacker for his last two years. While the injury history is a bit of a concern, Chaney all but put those questions to rest thanks to his bounce-back performance in 2009. He also greatly enhanced his draft stock; perhaps an eventual undrafted free agent had he failed to secure a medical redshirt, Chaney can now be expected to go off the board somewhere in rounds four and five in the 2010 NFL Draft.
