A.J. Edds, OLB, Iowa
A.J. Edds is yet another solid all around player from the University of Iowa. Like many that come out of the school, Edds doesn't do anything that jumps out at you on film, but you just don't see him making mistakes. Edds is a three year starter at outside linebacker, having started 37 straight games. During his first three seasons, he registered 148 tackles, 8.5 tackles for loss, 2 sacks, 2 interceptions, 9 passes broken up in coverage, and forced 2 fumbles. Edds has always been a solid tackler, but he really improved in coverage as a senior. In his twelve games this season, he has totaled 73 tackles, 4.5 tackles for loss, 4 interceptions, and 7 passes broken up in coverage. A.J. Edds' draft stock will rely heavily on the Senior Bowl and the NFL Combine. If he can show he belongs on the field with other elite senior players (and can show a solid mix of athleticism and skill to scouts), he could significantly improve his standing. As of now, Edds is likely a fifth round pick, but a solid offseason could change that drastically. A.J. Edds stock has been on the rise so far this offseason. Edds played outstanding during Senior Bowl week, showing off better than expected athleticism. During the game, he tallied 2 tackles and an interception. Edds may be the top 4-3 strongside linebacker available this year, and has vaulted himself into early third round consideration.
