2010 NFL Draft Prospect Scouting Report:
person
Dekoda Watson, OLB, Florida State
For four years, Dekoda Watson has been a vital part of the Florida State linebacker corps. He has had a relatively successful career with the Seminoles and tallied 50 tackles as a sophomore and 46 as a junior, despite missing three games. Watson is on pace to easily surpass his career highs in tackles in 2009. Through six games he already has 32 tackles, 7.5 tackles-for-loss and 4.5 sacks. Watson is an amazing athlete who will spend plenty of time in the weight room. He is deceptively strong and quick and should test pretty well at the NFL combine. The problem is he spent the summer of 2009 recovering from Tommy John surgery. Watson has already proven in the fall that the injury is behind him, but NFL teams will want to make sure he can stay healthy. Watson is more than just a freak athlete. He is a smart football player. Rarely will he be caught out of position and that should make him an intriguing mid-round option. He has had a hard time this year emerging as a leader of the Florida State defense as the team continues to struggle, but if Watson can turn around the defense, his stock will move up fast.
