2010 NFL Draft Prospect Scouting Report:
person
Anthony McCoy, TE, USC
Big and agile, McCoy is one of the most intriguing prospects in a relatively weak TE class. He played little in 2007 (2 catches for 18 yards-9 ypc with a TD), but dramatically improved in 2008 with a 22-reception year (256 yards, 11.6 ypc and 1 TD). Has one of the best hands of the class. Catches passes with ease. Can make the acrobatic catch and adjusts well to balls thrown over his shoulders. Is athletic with good size, strength and decent agility. Comes back to the quarterback well. Is reliable on short and intermediate routes. Gets up field quickly. However, lacks elite speed (4.78) and doesn't make many defenders miss in the open field. Will never be a vertical threat. Will struggle to gain yards after contact. Is not explosive and has trouble getting off the line of scrimmage. Is a below average blocker despite size. Must learn to play with more consistent leverage. Lacks a mean streak. Has trouble matching up against bigger defensive ends. Despite McCoy having adequate size, good athletic ability and playmaking ability as a receiver, his lack of ideal physical traits hurt his value. He is a receiving TE with the athleticism and skills to warrant a late second round pick.
