2010 NFL Draft Prospect Scouting Report:
person
Ed Dickson, TE, Oregon
He was Denis Dixon's security blanket during the Ducks' 2008 season when he grabbed 35 balls for 508 (14.5) yards with 3 scorers. That season was a microcosm of his previous campaign in Eugene. In 2007, Dickson set career highs in receptions (43) while gaining 453 yards (10.5) and scoring 3 TDs. As a senior in 2009, the big TE went on to grab 42 balls for a personal best in yards -- 551 --(13.1) and TDs (6). Is a good athlete. Shows the quickness to make plays in the second level. Has good burst to get off the ball quickly. Has better than average hands and is able to make tough catches. Runs hard after the catch. Adjusts easily to high passes. Shows the size and leaping ability to become a red zone threat. Lacks the pure speed (4.75) to be a downfield threat. Is one dimensional, contributing mainly as a receiver. Is an upright runner, causing his routes to be raw and choppy. Not a good blocker. Lacks bulk. Dickson is an intriguing prospect because of his size and athletic ability, but NFL teams would be turned off by his lack of speed and explosiveness. Despite this, he is a very good mid-round prospect who should develop into a solid starter.
