2010 NFL Draft Prospect Scouting Report:
Jared Odrick, DT, Penn State
Jared Odrick is yet another solid defensive prospect from Penn Sate. Like many other Nittany Lions, he's isn't the most physically impressive (they all just seem to make plays). However, Odrick is an excellent interior pass rusher. He has registered 24.5 tackles for loss and 14.5 sacks in 46 career games. He has good size for a defensive tackle at 6'5 and 296 pounds. Odrick is definitely at his best on obvious passing downs, when he can pin his ears back and get up-field. He's a solid run defender, but this is an area of his game that could use some work. He's not the type of tackle that requires constant double teams in the run game. Odrick would be best served playing next to a bigger nose tackle in the NFL, allowing him to work one on one against interior linemen. His run defense should improve over time, and he can contribute right away as an interior pass rusher. His best fit as a professional may be in a cover 2 defense, or as a defensive end in a 3-4 alignment. Currently he is a fringe first round prospect, but likely a second round pick. Jared Odrick looked absolutely dominating at times during Senior Bowl practices. He only recorded one tackle during the game, but he consistently beat blockers and got into the backfield. He's a solid athlete and he never takes a play off. He will likely come off the board at the end of round one. Jared Odrick has continued his solid offseason, not only solidifying his first round status, but putting himself in consideration as high as pick 20 to Houston. He ran a 4.98 second 40 yard dash at the combine, and looked outstanding during his position drills.
