2009 NFL Draft Prospect Scouting Report:
person
Quinn Johnson, FB, LSU
Johnson is an interesting NFL prospect because he will be a nice fit for some teams and no fit whatsoever for others. He is not a ball-carrying fullback, but he is an extremely talented blocker. Johnson had no carries as a freshman or a junior and had two as a sophomore. In his final season in Baton Rouge, however, he rushed 14 times--still a meager number, but a lot by his standards. Johnson even found the endzone three times. That (the red-zone offense) is how he most likely will be used in running situations at the next level. He doesn't have the speed to pick up chunks of yardage with any kind of consistently, although he reportedly has gone under 4.6 in the 40-yard-dash on one occasion. Whatever his speed, Johnson has always been and will continue to be most effective as a blocker. He has great size at 6'1' and 260 pounds and he is extremely aggressive while maintaining sound blocking technique. Furthermore, Johnson's stock should receive a slight boost because he is a good special-teamer and also a great team leader with no off-the-field baggage of any kind. He should come off the board sometime on Day 2 of the NFL Draft to a team that is looking for a player of his specific skill-set.
