Heading into the 2009 campaign Dez Bryant was right up there with Arrelious Benn and Brandon LaFell as the top draft eligible receivers in the nation. For different reasons, all three of those players are having some issues, but it is hard to blame any of the receivers for their lack of production in 2009. However, there was a time when Bryant was a productive receiver. As a freshman he caught 43 passes for 622 yards and six scores. In 2008 Bryant turned into the team's top receiver and had an amazing season. He caught 87 passes for 1,480 yards and 19 touchdowns. There were only six passing touchdowns that went to somebody besides Bryant. The 2009 season started fine for Bryant. In three games he caught 17 passes for 323 yards and four touchdowns. It looked like Bryant might keep up with his numbers from the 2008 campaign, but then trouble happened. Bryant lied to the NCAA over matters that were not illegal as far as his eligibility was concerned, but the NCAA suspended him for the entire season anyway. This is not the usual suspension concern that should make NFL teams shy away from Bryant. He certainly has some questions to answer to explain things to NFL teams, but it should not affect his draft status. That means Bryant may come out early, despite missing most of his junior season. If he does, he should still be a first round pick. 2/15 Update: Bryant is coming out early and will certainly be a first round pick. NFL teams have fallen for his potential, and rightfully so. Benn has pretty much dropped off the radar and Bryant has shown that he is still the superb athlete he was even though he missed most of his junior campaign. Players like Golden Tate of Notre Dame and Damian Williams are potential first round talents, but Bryant will almost certainly be the first receiver off the board in April. 3/24 Update: Bryant continues to show off his talent as a wide receiver. The only thing keeping him back is his image and reputation stemming from his suspension for lying to the NCAA. However, that is all just media hype. And media hype has nothing to do with what NFL teams know about Bryant. He is continuing to handle all the rumors with relative ease and as long as he did not tank any interviews, he will be the first receiver off the board and gone by the mid-way point of the first round.

Love this guys game. Wish he wouldn't have gotten suspended so more could witness. Very gifted athelete. I believe he has a 55' vertical. That's hops, he goes up, and will catch it. Big but very fast. Just the all around player
