2010 NFL Draft Prospect Scouting Report:
person
Jeff Owens, DT, Georgia
Owens is out for the season after playing just a few snaps of one game, tearing an ACL in Georgia's season-opening win over Georgia Southern. While Owens is a senior, he has never been previously redshirted, so he can take a medical redshirt and return to Athens in 2009. The chances are better than 50-50 that the defensive tackle will do just that, but he also has NFL potential if he decides to move on. Owens is 6'3'' and 298 pounds and he can run under 4.9 in the 40-yard-dash. It's not like Owens needs any more experience to go along with those physical assets. He started 11 games as a sophomore and all 13 of the Bulldogs' games as a junior last year. Owens has never been a stat machine, but NFL scouts will appreciate the fact that he can line up at either tackle or end. The main concern, of course, is durability (which is why it would behoove Owens to go back to college and enjoy a full 2009 campaign). He also separated a shoulder in spring practice heading into this season. If Owens can somehow can get healthy and astound in off-season workouts, he could go in the first three rounds of the 2009 draft, but chances are he returns to Georgia.
