D.J. Moore Scouting Report

Moore was one of the most versatile players in not only the SEC, but also the entire nation. In addition to being the defensive star for the surprising Vanderbilt Commodores, Moore also returned kicks and was sometimes used at receiver to maximize his rare assembly of skills. He is an athletic wonder at 5'10'' and 182 pounds (although height could be a rather significant issue on Sundays) while running under 4.4 in the 40-yard-dash. Moore enjoyed a stellar junior campaign in 2008, shutting down his opponents' best receivers and being a major force in punt returning. He simply picked up right where he left off with his remarkable 2007 season as a sophomore. The cornerback led the SEC in interceptions with six and was among the SEC and national leaders in solo tackles (63), total tackles (83), and pass breakups (10). Moore is leaving Vanderbilt after his junior year, but he still has plenty of experience. He played in every Vanderbilt game as a true freshman in 2006 and even started nine consecutive games at cornerback. In addition to his size, another possible drawback is a lack of physicality. Moore can stay with any receiver and is great at reading routes, but he can get over matched at the line of scrimmage. That said, his athleticism is undeniable. Clearly ready to depart Nashville and take his talents to the next level, Moore could be a first-round selection in this month's draft. He will either be off the board late in the first or early in the second.
