2009 NFL Draft Prospect Scouting Report:
Quinten Lawrence, WR, McNeese State
Lawrence played as a true freshman in 2005, recording 27 receptions for 572 yards (21.2 avg) with 6 TD. He also returned seven kicks for 167 yards (23.9). In 2006, Lawrence recorded 479 yards on 29 receptions (16.5) and 6 TD. He returned five kickoffs for 85 yards (17) while playing in all of the team's twelve games. In 2007, he became a full time starter, starting all of the team's twelve games and catching 31 passes for 645 yards (20.8) and 6 TD. He returned seven kicks for 106 yards (15.1)and was named to the Second Team All SLC squad. Great speed (4.43) is his main asset. Explosive. A threat to score from any place on the field. Runs well after a reception. Moves incredibly well laterally. Small and slim. Needs to add bulk fast. Route running is terrible raw. A willing blocker, but is mostly overpowered because of lack of bulk. Hands are average. Lawrence reminds us of Donnie Avery of Houston last year. He is not physical or polished, but is explosive. His speed and athletic ability will get him drafted higher than his football skills will probably warrant. He will need a ton of coaching to develop his potential. Nevertheless, he will be playing on Sundays in 2009.
