Marcus Easley Scouting Report

The story of Marcus Easley is what makes college football so great. Even in this day and age when coaches and scouts know just about everybody coming out of high school, a few players can still slip through the cracks; Marcus Easley was one of those players. The 6-2, 216 pound wide receiver from Stratford, Connecticut walked onto the Huskies' team. Even heading into his senior season, nobody expected much of out Easley except for him to compete for playing time. However, the story starts back in 2006 when Easley walked onto the team and sat on the bench. In 2007 Easley played some on special teams and had one catch for ten yards against Maine. In 2008 Easley started four of the first five games, but that was only when the Huskies started extra wide receivers before they realized they needed to stick to the ground. In those four starts Easley only caught two passes and he only caught two more passes the rest of the season. That is why the expectations for his senior season were quite low even though he was given a scholarship. Connecticut needed to find some receivers and Easley would certainly be in the mix, but few expected him to have a breakout season. Easley played in nine games during the regular season and caught just about everything thrown his direction. He finished with 44 receptions for 853 yards and eight touchdowns. Nobody else on the team came anywhere close to putting up numbers like that. 2/21 Update: Easley finished off his surprising senior season by leading the team yet again in the receiving department during the Papajohns.com Bowl. His hard work and tenacity should earn him a spot on somebody's roster, or at least practice squad. Whether or not he gets drafted is another story. Right now he is sitting on the fence, but he is worth a sixth or seventh round selection.
