2011 NFL Draft Prospect Scouting Report:
Jake Locker, QB, Washington
Locker is a good athlete who can make pass rushers miss due to his quick feet and decent pocket presence. He can make the short and intermediate passes with ease, but does not have great arm strength. Locker certainly has benefited from returning to school and spending more time in a traditional offense.
He could have gone pro early and been drafted in the first round last year, so NFL teams should know that his extra year in college can only be a good thing. Locker may have to battle it out with Andrew Luck for the top quarterback spot in the draft…if Luck goes pro early. Where Locker will surpass Luck is during the workouts, but that may not be enough to be the top quarterback in this class, but Locker will likely be a top ten selection.
2/3 Update: The Senior Bowl rarely gives a quarterback an opportunity to improve his draft stock, but it can certainly make a signal caller's stock drop quite quickly. Neither of those happened to Locker. He did relatively well during the week's practices and even started to play quite well in the Senior Bowl itself before falling off. Now things will move to the NFL Combine to see if Locker can move up in the first round or fall to the second.
should not be the first QB off the boards come April. If for no other reason, he needs work and most of the teams battling it out for the first overall pick need a QB now. Bradford would have been the poster boy front runner had he not injured his shoulder twice this season, which made way for ND Jimmy Clausen to step up and become the true #1 QB prospect come April if he declares. (which he should) Locker has a potential career ahead of him, but could bottom out like a skinny JaMarcus Russel if he gets thrown in to things to quickly
