2010 NFL Draft Prospect Scouting Report:
person
Alex Carrington, DE, Arkansas State
After a year of redshirting, Alex Carrington immediately stepped into a starting role at Arkansas State. His freshman campaign was cut short due to injury, but he started to show what he would become and by his sophomore year he was Honorable Mention All-Sun Belt Conference selection. And then Carrington really took off. The 2008 Sun Belt Defensive Player of the Year and second team All-America selection tallied 53 tackles, 19.0 tackles-for-loss and 10.5 sacks. In 2009 Carrington was double teamed consistently for obvious reasons. However, that did not stop him from tallying 41 tackles, 14.5 tackles-for-loss and 9.0 sacks. At 6-5 and 285 pounds, Carrington is bigger than your typical defensive end. He has a surprising amount of athleticism as well and he showed that off during Senior Week and quickly moved up draft boards. Not surprisingly, Carrington did not run a good 40 time at the NFL Combine, but he was one of the stronger ends in Indianapolis. Carrington has flown under the radar for most of his career just because of where he was playing, but he is a great fit for a 3-4 scheme and NFL scouts have taken notice since the season ended and Carrington should be gone by the end of the third round.
