2008 NFL Draft Prospect Scouting Report:
person
Letroy Guion, DT, Florida State
Letroy Guion went from a reserve defensive tackle to an early draftee during his junior season at Florida State. The year started with Guion being a backup to fellow early entry Andre Fluellen. Fluellen went down with an injury and Guion immediately proved to be a very effective tackle, tallying 31 tackles and 6.5 tackles for loss. That momentum lasted until the combine. Guion was very disappointing at the combine in just about every possible way. He checked in at 6-4 and 303 pounds and most expected that he would be a little bigger. He ran a 5.32 40 yard dash and had just 26 reps in the bench press. The expectations, by himself and others, were much loftier than that. Guion made up for it a little bit during the Florida State Pro Day, but the questions have already started to swirl. With less than a season of play as a starter at FSU, Guion really needed to put up some solid numbers to prove that he could be a productive player at the next level. But that did not happen and he could have fallen to as low as a sixth round selection. Guion is raw, but he does have a ton of potential. He is a good athlete, but maybe just not as good as most expected. He is still strong and will battle hard at the point of attack. Certainly his disappointing Combine numbers will drop him down on most draft boards, but he will be worth the risk for most teams by the fifth round.
