2008 NFL Draft Prospect Scouting Report:
person
Antwaun Molden, CB, Eastern Kentucky
Molden originally enrolled at Toledo University in 2003. He played in all of the school's thirteen games in 2004, recording only 12 tackles, but was not happy with his playing time at Toledo and eventually transferred to Eastern Kentucky prior to the 2005 season. He played in 12 games, started four, all at the right side cornerback position. Molden made 37 tackles, broke up one pass and gathered one interception and he also recovered two fumbles. During his junior season, Molden played in ten games, missing one due to injury. During the season, he recorded 36 tackles and one broken pass attempt. Molden was shifted to the left and played in all of the team's games, recording personal highs in tackles (70), broken passes (9) and interceptions (2). He is a solid, not spectacular athlete. He has good size and not great, but adequate speed (4.54-40). He has a smooth backpedal and already has the ability to cover most NFL receivers. Molden is best suited to play in zone coverage, because he takes good angles while on pursuit. He has decent hands for interceptions, but sometimes questionable instincts. He is not a physical player, letting receivers run through without much contact and ball carriers trend to overpower him as well. He does not react quickly with slow downs in and out of breaks. Molden does not shed blocks well and questions are already raised about his durability and the fact that he did not shine at a lower level. Molden probably would do very well at individual workouts. He is more an athlete than football player at this stage. He is down in the cornerback pecking order, but could become a real find; he just needs better coaching. If he decides to concentrate on football, Molden should become a constant on some NFL team's special team squad. Eventually, he could challenge for playing time at CB.
