2026 New York Giants Team Preview
After making the postseason in Brian Daboll’s first season in 2022 with
a 9-7-1 record, the New York Giants went 13 -38, creating an opening
for a new head coach. They settled on the legendary John Harbaugh to
save their franchise. Over 18 seasons with the Baltimore Ravens, he
went 180 -113 with 12 playoff appearances (13 -11), highlighted by a
Super Bowl title in 2012. Despite a poor record in 2025 (4 -13), the
Giants were only outscored by 58 points, compared to 141 and 142 over
the previous two years.
Matt Nagy takes over as New York’s offensive coordinator. He began
his NFL career in 2008 with the Philadelphia Eagles. His success there,
followed by five seasons with Kansas City, led to a four -year coaching
career with the Chicago Bears (34-31). He made the postseason twice
(0-2). He spent the past three years leading the Chiefs’ offense. The
Giants finished last year sixth in points (381) and 14th in offensive yards
(5,898).
New York brought in Dennard Wilson to run their defense. He held the
same position for Tennessee over the previous two years. His NFL
coaching career started in 2022, giving Wilson 13 seasons of
experience with the Rams, Jets, Eagles, Ravens, and Titans. Last year,
the Giants ranked 26th in points allowed (439) and 28th in yards allowed
(6,378).
Offense
The addition of a running quarterback in 2025 led to the Giants
averaging 49.3% rushing attempts per game. New York finished fifth in
rushing yards (2,195), helped by averaging 30.1 carries. They scored
22 times on the ground, with 10 runs of 20 yards or m ore. The Giants
ranked 21st in passing yards (3,703) while gaining 7.0 yards per pass
attempt. They completed 61.4% of their passes, leading to 21
touchdowns and 10 interceptions. Their offensive line gave up 48 sacks.
