Golf Rankings for AT&T Byron Nelson
In the Yahoo! Fantasy Golf game this week, we only have nine options in Group A. The decision will likely come down to pairing two studs (DJ and Spieth) or putting one of them with another deeper option to differentiate.
Group B isn't actually much deeper than Group A as we have 27 golfers and we have to choose four. The bottom half of Group B is ugly and I likely won't drop below Alex Cejka.
Group C is chock full of goodness with 109 golfers (including the just added Martin Flores). I wish we could choose four golfers from this group this week instead of Group B.
This week we tee it up for the AT&T Byron Nelson at the TPC Four Seasons Resort, Irving, Texas. The pros will head to the TPC Four Seasons Las Colinas Course. The course underwent major renovations in 2007 so any data prior to 2007 isn't useful. The Las Colinas course is a par 70 track that runs 7,166 yards which means we lose two par 5s from four we've seen on the par 72 tracks.
The tournament has been held at Las Colinas since 1995, but the major renovations in 2007 make course history useful from 2008 onward. We have bentgrass greens this week and Augusta National is perhaps the most famous course with bentgrass greens. There are becoming less and less common on Tour, but we'll be on them this week.
Where should we focus our statistical microscope this week?
We are going back to the well of scoring efficiency stats this week as we have some clustering in yardages. In fact, outside of the strokes gained stats, we're all about scoring this week.
Birdie or Better Percentage (BOB%): We're all about scoring this week. (Is there an echo in here?)
Par 4 Efficiency 400-450 yards (P4E400-450): We have 12 par 4s on the course and half of them are between 400 and 450 yards. Three of the remaining six par 4s are just outside this range (between 450 and 460 yards).
Par 3 Efficiency 175-200 yards (P3E175-200): Three of the four par 3s fall into this distance.
I'm focused on 2016 stats now and I'll use 2015 stats as a reference point.
And of course, we examine Strokes Gained: Putting (SG:P) and Strokes Gained: Tee to Green (SG:T2G) each week with SG:T2G being a bit more important again this week.
As always, check back on the weather Wednesday to see the final forecast. This week it looks like the weather we've got thunderstorms coming. Thursday there is 100% chance of rain with the thunderstorms forecast for the afternoon. If you recall, we had some rain last year too. So, it looks like delays are inevitable. More storms are possible of course, but Thursday looks like a definite issue right now.
