Golf Rankings for Farmers Insurance Open
This week's tour stop is the Famers Insurance Open at the Torrey Pines (South Course) in La Jolla, California. The tournament actually puts players on the North Course for one round and the South Course for three rounds. The South Course is a 7,698 yard, par 72 layout and the North Course is a 7,052 yard, par 72 track.
You don't have to be a mathematician to infer that the North Course is easy and the South Course is hard. You would be correct. So, you'll want to engineer your Yahoo! lineups to take advantage of the players who get the North Course in the rotation. You can see the tee times here (http://www.pgatour.com/tournaments/farmers-insurance-open/tee-times.html) You want to see if you can make a Yahoo! team that allows you to have North course players in your lineup on Thursday and Friday. Every golfer plays one round each on the North and South Courses on Thursdy and Friday. The tournament closes out with the last two rounds on the South Course.
Both courses have poa annua greens (as opposed to the Bermudagrass we saw last week). Poa annua greens which are relatively rare on Tour with the Frys.com Open, Pebble Beach Pro-Am, and the Northern Trust Open the only other three on the regular rotation.
But, with lengthy course history, we're going to be able to focus on two stats:
When you look at the historical records, you see that length off the tee correlates with those on the leaderboard. So, we'll make Driving Distance (DD) the number priority this week. Driving Accuracy is not an issue this week. And, when we look at the scoring results, we see that Par 5 Scoring is key to succeeding. You can play the par 3s and par4s even (or even over par) and still end up in the top 10.
And that's it. Let's not make it harder than it is.
And of course, we examine Strokes Gained: Putting and Strokes Gained: Tee to Green each week.
