Week 2: Pickups of the Week
Waiver Wire Watch: Looking Ahead to Week 2
I would think that most top players were drafted in your league, but here are some possible pickups that might still be available in your league after their week 1 performances...
QB Josh McCown, ---
MyFantasyLeague availability: 100%FANTASY PROFILE / STATS & MORE
QB Josh McCown, Oakland: McCown had a good game throwing 30 of 40 passes for 313 yards, plus 2 TDs against the Lions defense on Sunday. The Raiders are not a very good team and will be behind most weeks, thus he should be throwing the ball in most second half's to play catch-up. McCown appeared to have injured his hand at the end of the game, so fantasy owners should keep an eye on that situation. If he is out then Daunte Culpepper would be worth considering for picking up.
QB Ben Roethlisberger, ---
MyFantasyLeague availability: 100%FANTASY PROFILE / STATS & MORE
QB Ben Roethlisberger, Pittsburgh: Roethlisberger threw for 161 yards and 4 TDs against a bad Browns defense in week 1 and next weekend, he faces a Buffalo defense that just surrendered over 300 yards passing to Jay Cutler. Roethlisberger was not drafted in some 10-12 team leagues, so it is possible he is still available in your league. He is a good pickup for owners using the QBBC approach, and he is definitely a quality backup fantasy QB for fantasy owners.
RB Chris Brown, ---
MyFantasyLeague availability: 100%FANTASY PROFILE / STATS & MORE
RB Chris Brown, Tennessee: Chris Brown made the Tennessee Titans fans forget about them losing Travis Henry as he ran through a tough Jacksonville defense and helped his team get a week 1 upset win on the road. Brown finished with 19 carries for 175 yards, plus 1 reception for 3 yards. With all the talk about LenDale White as the starter, Brown is still available in most leagues. Fantasy owners should grab him up immediately for their fantasy teams.
RB Sammy Morris, ---
MyFantasyLeague availability: 100%FANTASY PROFILE / STATS & MORE
RB Sammy Morris, New England: Morris is the backup to Laurence Maroney in New England, but based on how he was used by the Patriots in their first game and the fact that New England is going to be winning most games, Morris is worth picking up. He had 11 carries for 54 yards, along with 2 receptions for 11 yards against the Jets. If you have Maroney, then I definitely recommend getting Morris as a handcuff (if you don't already have him). If he is still a free agent in your league, then I would pick him up for a roster spot.
RB Michael Pittman, ---
MyFantasyLeague availability: 100%FANTASY PROFILE / STATS & MORE
RB Michael Pittman, Tampa Bay: The Cadillac stopped running again, this time because of bruised ribs. Early reports are that Williams could miss the week two game against New Orleans, so either Pittman or Earnest Graham would be the Buccaneers starting RB. Neither were very effective last weekend against Seattle, but if you are very desperate for RB help they are worth considering if Williams were out.
RB Derrick Ward, ---
MyFantasyLeague availability: 100%FANTASY PROFILE / STATS & MORE
RB Derrick Ward, NY Giants: After Giants starting RB Brandon Jacobs left Sunday night's game with a knee injury, Ward replaced him and had a good game with 13 carries for 89 rushing yards, along with 4 receptions for 27 yards, plus 1 TD. Early reports are that Jacobs has a MCL sprain and could be out a few games, thus if Ward is available in your league, I would advise fantasy owners to immediately find a roster spot available for him.
