2-QB Fantasy Football Strategy Guide
Times are changing which means fantasy football leagues are changing. You have your standard leagues which issue 4 points for passing touchdowns and 6 points for every other touchdown. What if the NFL's scoring system was just like that? That's why I was never too privy to standard fantasy scoring systems. I'm talking about 6 points for every touchdown (passing, rushing, and receiving). Now that changes everything. You're no longer drafting running back's as your top choice. You officially have no clue how you're drafting at all. You have no base to go by. You have never experienced this level of pure awesomeness due to it never being mocked, projected, or written about. Till…
First and foremost, why are you even interested in a 2-QB league with points per reception? Side note: you need to have value for wide receivers with PPR or else aside from the top receivers everyone else is vanilla. I figured that out last season when we didn't have PPR. This year our wide outs have value. Now back to the question, maybe you're bored with your current league and are looking for a challenge. (Points to a 2-QB custom league) There's your challenge. In a 10-team league (this works the best) you're going to test your fantasy football greatness. It's a challenge that's growing in the fantasy football community and I'm here to ease your stress levels as you transition into the next phase.
Since when have you seen a QB throw for a touchdown and only get 4 points? Just like in real life the QB position is now the most important position on your team so draft like it. Personally I value the top seven QB's before even considering a RB. Here's the list according to the projected scoring system of a 2-QB league found on www.fftoolbox.com (customized scoring to fit my leagues scoring credentials) of the top 10 QB's slightly altered by me due to my personal opinion.
- Aaron Rodgers
- Tom Brady
- Michael Vick
- Philip Rivers
- Drew Brees
- Tony Romo
- Matt Ryan
- Matt Schaub
- Josh Freeman
- Peyton Manning
All followed by Joe Flacco, Ben Roethlisberger, Sam Bradford, Matt Cassel, and Eli Manning (in no particular order, I just thought I'd mention them) to round out the top 15. If I could get the top 10 in the first round, I definitely wouldn't hesitate to do so. Any time you can get someone who's projected to get you 300-400 points in a season you have to get them. And Yes, I do have Romo rated higher than Manning this season. Though Romo is returning from injury he's the one in training camp while Manning seems to be headed to miss week 1 and having to play catch up.
I do most of my selections based on who finished where last year in the league (total points wise) and which way the draft is going. Say everyone is going RB heavy cause they are going off of the projected standard team mocks and projections, that sets you up to be in prime position to acquire a top QB which is HUGE in a QB league. QB's should be your bread and butter and your main targets you get in the first 2 rounds. I figure the top 10 will be gone by the second round. My game plan last year when I had the 8th pick was to go QB/QB in the first 2 rounds. Seeing how most were targeting RB's and few converted QB's I walked away with Rivers and Schaub. At the end of the day those two handed me 625+ points at season's end.
The trick here is to really do your homework on second tier running backs you don't mind having but will be productive. Timeshares seem to be the trend in the NFL so go with a RB that handles the bulk of the load. Also target RB's that catch a ton of balls out of the backfield. This rewards you with points per reception (the still fairly new trend in fantasy). Getting a back that will get you anywhere around 200-225+ points in a season is huge if you have 2 stud QB's.
Take the top 7 RB's slotted to score 300- points (aside from Gore who is estimated to score 290 but I still consider him top tier). If you miss out on them don't worry. (You do see where I am going with this, don't you?) It's all a numbers game.
- Arian Foster
- Adrian Peterson
- Ray Rice
- Jamaal Charles
- LeSean McCoy
- Chris Johnson
- Frank Gore
