Week 13: Pickups of the Week
WR Robert Meachem, ---

Scores in four games in a row now. This is not coincidence. This is just plain, old-fashioned talent. Get over any hangups you have about number of catches and number of yards. Clearly, the touchdowns more than make up for Meachem's otherwise limited participation in this, the most prolific offense in the league. We've talked enough about Meachem's ability and fantasy value over the last few weeks, so let's take a look at what the future holds for the Saints' aerial dominance: Robert Meachem is signed through 2011; Marques Colston is signed through 2011; Jeremy Shockey is signed through 2011; Devery Henderson signed a big-money four-year extension this season; and Drew Brees' millions come up for re-negotiation after next year. That means there's still another season of this packed house air show in New Orleans before we can expect to see faces in new places -- and, chances are, Brees (who's only 30 years old) will get his extension. Lucky, in a sense, for Meachem and his fantasy owners, yet unlucky in that we'll probably have to wait a few years before we can see this talent-laden receiver get his shot as a true number one receiver.
New York

The Jets have allowed the third fewest yards in the league, yet get no love from fantasy owners. Why? Is it their 5-6 record? They do play in a tough division and have had some bad luck. Despite an average 16-point margin of victory in their five wins, they've managed to lose six games by an average of just a single touchdown (including a heartbreaking 2-point loss to the Jaguars in week 10 and an overtime disappointment against the Bills in week 6). Don't get hung up on the W-L columns. The Jets' D is fantasy-worthy, and they face some promising opposition in the next two weeks. In week 13, they get their chance for revenge against Buffalo, then they head to Tampa to face a second consecutive offensively-starved opponent. New York only gives up 17.7 points per game and that number could very well be on the way down.
