Week 7: Sit 'Em
Bye weeks always make for interesting sit / start decisions. As fantasy owners, we must weigh our options carefully so that we can gain those critical points from replacement / fill-in players. There will always be shocking performances that trigger us to pick-up that waiver wire steal, or so we think. Then we only find out the hard way that the week we chose to plug and play an upgraded player was inbetween productive weeks. This week we have two quarterbacks facing solid pass rushing squads, two running backs struggling to contribute at a higher level rushing on tough lines, one wide out who is under producing and not operating in his full capacity, a tight end who dropped three passes in Week 6 and the Arizona defense against Manning and New York.
QB Jason Campbell, ---
FANTASY PROFILE / STATS & MORE
Jason Campbell has not had the success that many felt he had the potential for. Questions have come up regarding whether or not the offensive calling in Washington is a factor. John Keim, a Sporting News correspondent, recently reported that Campbell will start Monday night against Philadelphia; however, he is anticipated to remain on a narrow game plan as the team tries to get on track this season. If Jim Zorn's offensive play calling is all or part of the problem (and a restructure in calling the offensive plays can turn things around), Campbell may have value. Until then, wait and watch. Campbell has receivers that can get the job done, but he does not seem to find them consistently. This week versus Philadelphia will not be easy.
QB Kurt Warner, ---
FANTASY PROFILE / STATS & MORE
Warner and his receiving core can be explosive and productive, but their running game is weak at best. Arizona's difficulty running the ball will allow the Giants' defensive line to target Warner consistently. Warner has several things that are not in his favor this week: Arizona's poor running game, New York's aggressive pass rush and Boldin may be out of commission. My personal feeling is that the New York defense will be swarming Warner; I anticipate turnovers.
RB Reggie Bush, ---
FANTASY PROFILE / STATS & MORE
Reggie Bush's season is not shaping up as many had hoped. New Orleans now has a triad of backs in Thomas, Bell and Bush (in that order). Bell has recently re-emerged as a goal-line threat, but Thomas is currently the man. Unless one of these two guys is injured, the likelihood that Bush will gain carries is not good. Bell appears to be getting 30 percent or so of the carries and this does not bode well for Bush. Reggie is a receiving threat, but even his productivity here has been slower than pace. If you are in a point per reception league then Bush may work for you, but if not he should sit. This week New Orleans faces a Miami rush defense that is second in the league. Look for Bush and the others to be limited.
RB Jerome Harrison, DET
FANTASY PROFILE / STATS & MORE
Many fantasy owners think Harrison should be getting the majority of the carries for the Browns, but he has only gotten 13 carries over the last two weeks and not recorded a reception. Unless Harrison starts to get a greater share of the running game (or begins playing an active and consistent role on the passing game), his spot on your roster is not justified. Green Bay is ranked high against the rush, so this is a factor this week; but, if he is not given the opportunity, then his start is pointless.
WR Bernard Berrian, ---
FANTASY PROFILE / STATS & MORE
Berrian does not have more than 6 receptions and 75 yards in a game this season. He does have a few TDs here and there, but not the production you would expect with Peterson running so well and Favre on cue. Sidney Rice appears to be capitalizing on the deep threat opportunities, while Berrian is just getting by. Going out for the deep pass used to be Berrian's job. If he does not get the deep routes his value plummets.
