Week 11: Busts of the Week
Week 10 Recap:
David Garrard performed well (throwing 238 yards for 2 touchdowns), but the "Oompa Loompa" had 3 touchdowns.
Justin Fargas was basically useless. He ran for 89 yards and had 1 reception for 9 yards. JaMarcus Russell did not even get the start and Walters threw 2 interceptions.
Dante Culpepper and Drew Stanton played. Neither were exceptional; Stanton threw for 94 yards and a TD, while Culpepper threw for just over 100 yards with a pick.
Steven Jackson did not play, which was a smart move. He needs to recover at least another week before getting back to action. The remainder of the St. Louis running backs were awful and the only running game was brought by Thomas Jones as he scored 3 TDs against St. Louis.
OK, Plaxico Burress scored a touchdown, but that was his only catch of this scoring fest between New York and Philadelphia. New York.
Cotchery and Coles each had 1 reception for minimal yardage. Dustin Keller (the tight end) had 107 yards and a TD. This was his first game with over 40 yards receiving this season.
What to expect in Week 11:
McGahee and Rice are not good options vs. a New York defense that is allowing less than 90 yards per game on the ground. Throw McClain into this mix as well.
Calvin Johnson will suffer this week vs. a tough Carolina defense that should keep Culpepper and/or Stanton in check.
Coles and Cotchery make the list again vs. New England this week.
Randy Moss looks to be loosing value and the New York defense will challenge Cassel this week.
Anthony Fasano has been a decent fill-in tight end at points this season (especially early), but now is the time to find a consistent tight end option and drop Fasano. Look for Oakland to limit the connections between Pennington and his tight end this week.
Fred Taylor is not a good pick for running back or flex this week.
RB Willis McGahee, ---
FANTASY PROFILE / STATS & MORE
McGahee has rushed for more than 100 yards in only two games this season and just had his first multiple touchdown game this past week. The New York defense is holding running backs to less than 88 yards per game and that does not bode well for McGahee owners this week. I could not agree more with the FFT Week 11: Sell High article on Willis. He not only faces a tough defense this week, but for weeks to come as well.
RB Ray Rice, ---
FANTASY PROFILE / STATS & MORE
Rice has lost the allure that he had just 2 weeks ago. His 154 yard game against Cleveland looked awful nice (he had 3 receptions on top of that for 22 yards). Rice was overshadowed by a healthy looking Willis McGahee last week, who took it to the Houston defense for 112 yards and 2 TDs. With Willis healthy and performing, Rice is not even a flex option in my opinion. This week against the New York defense, Rice is definitely not a solid option.
RB Fred Taylor, ---
FANTASY PROFILE / STATS & MORE
Fred Taylor did amass 80 yards in Week 10 vs. Detroit, but still has not scored a touchdown this season. Despite Taylor's increased yardage last week, he is not a good running back or flex option this week vs. Tennessee. Jones-Drew has shown that he is the man in Jacksonville after his 3 TD performance last week. This drops Taylor down a notch on my list of starters. Taylor has been given slightly more carries than Jones-Drew this season, but that is not something to bank on.
WR Laveranues Coles, ---
FANTASY PROFILE / STATS & MORE
Coles had 1 reception for 14 yards last week vs. St. Louis. This week vs. New England will require Favre to synchronize with his receivers and this has been an issue lately. This past week Favre found tight end Dustin Keller for 107 yards, but Coles was left out of most plays or limited by coverage. Look for this passing game to continue its lackluster performance this week.
WR Jerricho Cotchery, ---
FANTASY PROFILE / STATS & MORE
Cotchery was also limited in Week 10. Favre and his wide outs were on fire for several games earlier this season (especially Cotchery), but lately they have been ineffective. I do not foresee this trend changing this week when New York faces New England. Both teams have solid defenses and I think the passing game will be limited.
