Week 10: Triple Threat Waiver Wire Pickups
QB Jay Cutler, ---
MyFantasyLeague availability: 100%Injuries have limited Cutler so far in 2016. He returned in Week 8 before the Bears' bye and put up a solid performance. It wasn't a great Fantasy day as he went 20-for-31 for 252 yards with a touchdown. That's not a bad game against a tough Vikings defense, and it was his first game since Week 2. The Bears had the running game rolling with Jordan Howard picking up chunks of yards. Cutler is a good streamer in Week 10 against the Buccaneers. They are one of the worst teams against quarterbacks, allowing 18 touchdown passes. Cutler has a good running game and a solid group of receivers with Alshon Jeffery, Cameron Meredith and tight end Zach Miller. The Bears have a favorable schedule the rest of the way for quarterbacks, too.
QB Colin Kaepernick, ---
MyFantasyLeague availability: 100%If you watch Kaepernick play, you will question this recommendation. He's still isn't a good NFL quarterback. This is about Fantasy, though, and Kaepernick puts up good numbers with a high floor each week. Week 9 certainly looks like an outlier. Kaepernick passed for 398 yards and two touchdowns and rushed for 23 yards on five carries against the Saints. Both touchdowns came on short passes that Vance McDonald and DuJuan Harris took to the end zone. The reason to like Kaepernick is his running ability. He has rushed for 173 yards in three games. He passed for 187 and 143 yards in his two other games, so don't expect many passing yards. The 49ers will play from behind almost all the time with their awful defense, particularly against the run and with a high-paced offense, they will run a lot of plays.
RB Peyton Barber, ---
MyFantasyLeague availability: 100%The Buccaneers might want to put Barber in bubble wrap. Charles Sims went on injured reserve with a knee injury, Doug Martin had a hamstring injury and hurt it again in the bye week pushing back his return; Jacquizz Rodgers was rolling until he sprained his foot and Antone Smith is out for the season with a knee injury. That leaves Barber and Mike James for now. There has been no timetable for the return of Martin and Rodgers, and both didn't practice on Monday, so we will assume Barber will be the main back in Week 10. Barber had 12 carries for 84 yards with a touchdown in Week 7 against the 49ers, but who doesn't have success in San Francisco? After not being involved in Week 8, Barber had 11 carries for 31 yards and four catches for 24 yards on five targets against the Falcons. The running back position is often about volume, and in Week 10 the Buccaneers will be hosting the Bears and Barber should be the lead back.
RB Paul Perkins, ---
MyFantasyLeague availability: 100%All signs point to a shift in the backfield with Perkins taking over the lead role or at least being the back to get the majority of the touches soon. The rookie out of UCLA played 34 percent of the snaps (22) and had the same amount of touches as Jennings. Perkins hasn't done much this season. Before Week 9, he had a season-high five touches in Week 7. Perkins was more involved against the Eagles in Week 9 with 11 carries for 32 yards and three catches for 15 yards. Jennings had 11 carries for 26 yards and three catches for 13 yards. Jennings has done nothing to stay in a prominent role, averaging 2.6 yards per carry.
WR Rishard Matthews, ---
MyFantasyLeague availability: 100%It was perplexing as to why Matthews wasn't often used in the Titans offense. Tajae Sharpe got the buzz in the preseason and fizzled quickly. Andre Johnson was playing more snaps and recently retired. It was looking bleak, but Matthews has seen an uptick in snaps over the last few games, and Marcus Mariota has been putting up better passing numbers. The Titans still rely mainly on the running game and they do spread the ball around, but Matthews is becoming a bigger part of the offense. Matthews has five touchdowns in his last five games. Matthews caught six passes for 63 yards with two touchdowns on ten targets against the Chargers in Week 9. Matthews has 21 targets over the last three games, catching 14 passes for 138 yards and three touchdowns. Matthews will face the Packers, who allow a lot of Fantasy points to receivers, in Week 10. The Packers have allowed 11 touchdowns to wide receivers.
