Week 5: Fantasy Football Pickups
TE Gary Barnidge, ---
MyFantasyLeague availability: 100%I hope you heeded my advice on Barnidge in last week's pickups and FAAB report. Once again he was a major contributor for the Browns' offense. Over the last two weeks, Barnidge has been targeted a whopping 16 times. Over that span he has two TDs, as well as a 100-yard receiving game. The Browns aren't an exciting offense, but he's a perfect fit for the style of offense they play, with short, high-percentage passes. Barnidge has the size to exploit matchups. That is a trend in the NFL and the Browns may have found something special in the 30-year-old tight end. I'd pick him up and consider starting him over other options, including Jason Witten and Zach Ertz.
TE Richard Rodgers, ---
MyFantasyLeague availability: 100%After four weeks 17 targets may not seem like a lot, it's definitely not elite level, but at this point in the season you're not going to find elite-level talent at tight end on the waiver wire. However, when dealing with injuries and bye weeks, Rodgers is an adequate replacement. He has two TDs on the year and both of those came in the red zone, where Aaron Rodgers looks his way consistently. Rodgers is a great option for standard scoring leagues, but has less value in PPR formats where he just doesn't see enough targets to be viable. Most of his value is based upon finding the end zone, but the Packers have so many other options in that offense that it would be hard to count on him every week..
